I had been looking for a solution for listening to lectures when I'm going to sleep that wasn't going to leave the hubby complaining about my "boring" choices. I've tried headphones, ear buds, pillow speakers, and several head band types without finding anything that allowed me to actually go to sleep without causing pain in ears or on the head. (So called pillow speakers were the worst, btw) At the same time, I do need to be able to hear noises in the house due to numerous pets & an elderly mother who sometimes needs assistance at night, but I don't want to hear hubby's snoring or HIS boring tv programs. (Nope, our choices in entertainment are not why we are married!)
To complicate it, I do wear a cpap mask at night, which means the whole head halter thing & mask. This works with the mask & after several trials, I have discovered that for me at least, it works best UNDER the mask. The mask stays in place all night, despite me sleeping like a hot dog in a gas station. I'm also finding it reduces irritation to my eyes from periodic air leaks during the night as I move around. I can clearly hear my lectures, adjust the volume (different speakers may have different volumes) or even move the speakers slightly in the mask to adjust them for perfect sound. I'm not an audiophile and I'm not using them for music, so my perception of great sound ,may fail for someone else. For the speaking voice & a bit of buffer music, they are fantastic.
It paired easily with my phone, which is the source for my lectures. I sometimes sleep odd hours, and with the volume of spam calls we all get, I did shut off the phone call access on the phone itself as I don't want to blindly try to figure that out when one comes through.
While so far, the mask portion has been okay, I'm not sure how I'll feel about it long term. I've never worn a sleep mask before and I bought this specifically for the speaker function. I've had a few moments of absolute confusion when I woke up to utter darkness, and it's a pain when I do need to physically LOOK at the phone to change lectures, etc. but so far, I've managed to cope by sliding the mask slightly upwards. For those that do want a mask, it really does black out the room completely, even in daylight.
The battery charged quickly upon arrival. I've used it for four nights & several naps. (My lectures do not play all night, probably no more than 2 hours of play per night.)
Overall, I like it. My mother has even bought one for herself, although it hasn't arrived yet.
