Aimopt Open Ear Headphones, Air Conduction Bluetooth Headset, Wireless Headphones with Noise-Canceling Microphone, Headset with Mic for Laptop Work, Study, Running and Driving

I got this headset for my work meetings. I’m spending most of my day in team meetings and my regular headset is heavy and hurts my ears and head if I wear it for hours.
So, this headset is the opposite.
It is light and comfortable enough to use it for extended periods of time.
However, the sound quality doesn’t compare. My coworkers all can tell the difference on how I sound. For me it is the same, the sound I get is much lower quality, and the noise cancelling is not nearly as good either.
So far, it’s ok. But it could be better.

As a dedicated flight simmer, I’m always on the lookout for equipment that enhances my virtual flying experience. The Aimopt Open Ear Headphones piqued my interest, and I decided to take them for a spin to see if they could truly cater to my needs. While I’m no stranger to gaming headsets, the concept of open ear headphones was new to me, promising a unique blend of immersion and functionality for aviation enthusiasts like me.

Setting up the headphones was a breeze, with seamless Bluetooth connectivity that got me off the ground quickly. Sliding the headphones over my ears, I was greeted with impressive audio quality that resonated well with the various aircraft engines and ambient sounds in my simulator. The built-in microphone turned out to be a boon when coordinating with virtual Air Traffic Control, adding an extra layer of realism to my flights.

While the headset’s audio delivery was commendable, the one-size-fits-all design had its quirks. The loop on the back of the head, intended to ensure a secure fit, left something to be desired. Unfortunately, it lacked adjustability to accommodate different head shapes. In certain head movements, the headset’s position shifted, causing the speakers to move away from my ears, necessitating a quick readjustment. This occasional inconvenience was a minor setback and could vary based on individual head shapes and sizes.

One aspect that didn’t quite align with my expectations was the charging port. The headphones relied on a proprietary cable for charging, which, if lost, could render the headset practically unusable. A universal USB charging port would have been a more user-friendly choice, as USB cables are commonly available. On the upside, the battery life held up well during my shorter flights, and I’m curious to see how it fares during more extended sessions.

These headphones exhibit solid build quality without compromising on weight. This was evident when I undertook a flight to Las Vegas and back without even realizing I still had them on after disembarking from my simulator. The headphones’ lightweight nature was a definite plus, making extended flights less cumbersome.

For flight simulation enthusiasts seeking an immersive audio experience, the Aimopt Open Ear Headphones are a commendable option. Their audio quality and integrated microphone enhance the virtual cockpit atmosphere, enabling seamless communication with virtual Air Traffic Control. While the design might benefit from more customizable adjustments and a universal charging port, the headphones still deliver great value for their price point. So, if you’re in the market for an affordably priced headset that caters to flight simulation needs, I recommend giving these a try. Happy flying!

I am a huge fan of bone-conduction headphones. I have severe tinnitus (that I earned the hard way) and can’t stand having anything in or on my ears because it makes the ringing much louder. Bone conduction bypasses the ear canal and doesn’t aggravate tinnitus. I have been wearing a pair of Trex Air Aftershocks for several years, and the years are catching up to them. Time for an upgrade?

These were an enticing option for several reasons. First was the boom mic. The Trex mic was on the ear so it not only picked up my voice but all other sounds going on around me. I always have a radio playing in the background (classical station), and it picks it up clearly. These don’t – and that’s great. They pick up whatever’s within 6 inches of the boom mic and not much else. They also don’t use a physical connector – their charging cable is simply magnetic connectors, making putting them on to charge extremely easy. Another improvement over the old headphones.

The sound is decent – I use these for work (Teams and Jabber phone on my work laptop) and for that they work great. But these are much better for work use than music. There is no bass at all – this is all mids and tweets. Since I got these for work, that’s not really an issue. Then I realized that these weren’t bone-conduction, but open-air conduction. Their performance made a lot more sense – they don’t work the same way.

The drawbacks are physical. They’re large – much larger than the Aftershocks (see the picture). So while the Aftershocks conform to my head in a perfect fit, these “rattle around” a bit. They aren’t flush, don’t quite conform on the left ear, and compete with my eyeglasses on who gets to hang on to the ear better. Note: the glasses won. The material is also a matte finish plastic that allows them to slide around as well, and it can be a bit annoying having to repeatedly reposition them.

My rating decision is based on fit, finish, and function. While the function is fantastic, the fit and finish aren’t on par with the Aftershocks. However, they less than are half the price, so they also have that going for them.

If you are looking for an inexpensive over-ear, one-piece headset with a boom mic for work (and have an EXTREMELY LARGE head), these may just be perfect for you.
